Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to what residents ask us most.
Why does the fire department respond to my home when I need an ambulance?
The East Glenville Fire Department has on staff numerous New York State Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified First Responders. These medically trained members respond quickly to critical medical emergencies in the East Glenville Fire District and will provide Basic Life Support until an ambulance arrives to provide advanced medical care and/or transport to a hospital.
What is the Fire Company? What is the Fire District?
The East Glenville Fire Company is the organization that provides the manpower to the Fire District. The Fire District is the taxpayer supported entity responsible for the equipment and building. The Fire District is overseen by the Board of Fire Commissioners which are elected by the residents.
How do I get a copy of the meeting minutes?
Every set of board meeting minutes is on this website, going back through the whole archive, and you can download any of them as a PDF. You do not need to ask anyone, and there is no charge.
How do I request a record that isn't on the website?
Ask the district in writing — by letter, by email, or through the contact form. You do not have to give a reason for asking. The district will respond within five business days.
Are the minutes on here official, even the ones marked Draft?
Yes. Draft minutes are published as soon as they are written, before the Board has voted to approve them, because New York requires minutes to be available within two weeks of a meeting. A draft is the real record of what happened — it simply has not been formally approved yet, and it is labelled so you can tell.
Can I attend a Board meeting?
Yes. Meetings of the Board of Fire Commissioners are open to the public under New York's Open Meetings Law. You are welcome to attend and listen; you do not need to give notice or ask permission.
A document on here is a scan I can't search or read aloud. Can I get another version?
Yes — please ask. Most documents on this site contain real searchable text, but a small number are scans that do not. If you reach one of those and you need it in a form a screen reader can read, contact the district and a copy will be provided.
